Dr. Rahul Dev Mukhopadhyay
Assistant Professor (Research)
RD studied Chemistry (Honours) at Presidency College, Kolkata and obtained his B.Sc. degree in 2008 from the University of Calcutta. He then obtained his M.Sc. degree in 2010 with specialization in organic chemistry from Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur affiliated to the University of Calcutta. In 2009 he qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) and obtained CSIR-Junior Research Fellowship. He then joined the research group of Professor. Ayyappanpillai Ajayaghosh at CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram in July 2010 and obtained his Ph.D. (2017) degree from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR).
In November, 2017 RD joined as a postdoctoral research fellow in the group of Professor. Kimoon Kim at the Center for Self-assembly & Complexity (CSC), under the Institute for Basic Science (IBS), Pohang University of Science & Technology (POSTECH), South Korea. In 2018, he was awarded with the CSC-Research Fellowship and later in 2020 he was promoted as a research team leader to carry out research on non-equilibrium supramolecular systems. During this time he initiated a new research area in Professor Kim's group on audible sound controlled chemical systems.
After returning back to India (April, 2021), he took up a position as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Ramananda College, Bankura University through the West Bengal College Service Commission. He continued in this position till February 29, 2024. From March 1, 2024, he is presently appointed as an Assistant Professor (research) at the Department of Chemistry, SRMIST, Chennai. His present h-index is 15 and i10-index is 15 and he has published in several international peer reviewed journals. His research interests span across the diverse areas of supramolecular chemistry and functional organic materials (such as, stimuli-responsive systems, far-from-equilibrium assemblies, coordination polymers, superhydrophobic coatings, host-guest chemistry, fluorescent soft materials, porous-organic cages, etc). He is also involved in teaching courses related to organic chemistry at SRMIST. Among his other academic services he serves as a guest lecturer (2017-till date) for the supramolecular chemistry course work at POSTECH and as a reviewer for journals belonging to NPG, ACS , RSC. etc. He also acted as a convenor for national-level webinars: 'Recent Advances In Materials And Nanoscience' (RAMAN'21) and an international-level webinar 'Polymer Chemistry Research Advancements in recent Years' (PCRA'Y)-2022
